soup and a book

Yesterday I boiled some chicken for myself
husband thought I was making soup
...what to do if you love someone
...make the soup
today...I took the broth from yesterday and added
all the neccessary ingredients
...getting rid of some shredded carrots I didn't use up in salads
...the house smells so good....as only soup can do to a house
even the cats stirred around...looking for what it was
.....how many pots of soup have I made in my life?
the thought staggered me....
The thought that it still comforts
He will be so happy when he comes home
This is not what I planned for my morning
but who cares...a small gift for an ordinary day
Ordinary....
the most divine word
Ordinary...
I hope an unordinary day and all its chaos
stays away for a while....
I give thanks for this ordinary day
with sunlight streaming in the window
the autumn leaves outside my window showing off
the cats purring around..still glad I am home
Ordinary...the secret for a life of gratitude
I picked up Simple Abundance
and cracked the book open and look what was tucked inside of it

sigh.....my heart fills with love for her
how much I miss her....
They are coming here in November
....can't wait

I have a lust for pottery
Sometimes I think I love going up to Door County every year
not to write, but to find it
This Ephraim Pottery
I was only going to buy the daffodils
but the owl...well ...I had to have him
and the berries....what can I say
never let an addict near their desire

The week spent writing was truly the best  I have spent up there
...the leader was fabulous...made us work our arses off
challenged us....took no pity on our moaning

I was afraid of the 5 bed dorm....but it worked out pretty well
One of the women was from Chicago
and was a real crack up...made us laugh until we......
well..you know
The other was a mother hen...so sweet...caring about everything and everyone
and funny too
We hardly slept all week
we over ate
we wrote our brains dry
and we laughed until it hurt
....and on Friday..it was show and tell
...and...
I am happy to report that a scary story I wrote about a tree
was a hit.....made my little heart jump for joy...I made them afraid to walk in the woods
back to the lodge that night....I heard a few screams as a tree limb
rubbed against another limb..ha ha....power of the word!

All the comments I received...good comments
...That people in such a large group of diverse arts
would bother to say anything to another ...joy

The writer's group was a small group of 9 souls
wanting to write better...
A few things we did during the week was to chose 6 words out of a box
 and write stories from them
...We were given phrases too

We also had to tell 2 truths and one lie... in a paragraph
and we had to defend what we wrote through the class' questioning..
. and the group had to decide by our writing and our answers...which was which
.....darn.....I'm a good liar
fooled them all

It was a glorious week of autumn while we were there...stunning actually
breathtaking to see the changing spirit of Lake Michigan every morning

But on the last morning....I looked out over the lake
colorful trees framing my view ....it's beautiful
but it's not home
I was ready to go home....

The cats waited in the window for me...how did they know?
I saw all of them peering out as I drove in
home...home...home
They missed me....all of them
....that was the week's gold..all of them

So this week...I am settling back in
catching up....mellowing
I need nothing more in my life than what I have
So hopefully I'll be back to moaning and groaning to you
sharing my thoughts and tales
sharing how I begin again
joyfully

one more thing...
This is Abigail......just wanted to share a rare picture of her
she was born under our deck....she joined us prego
and we kept her........she's very shy.... and she adores me :)
She sits on my lap now and purrs...a far cry from the cat who hid all of the time

Shelters are filled with black cats...no one wants them
how sad...we did this to these dear creatures
made them suffer because of our superstitions
But I love mine!

They are hard to photograph...all black
so enjoy this glance of my shy girl
this gentle, gentle sweet animal
I wanted to name her Esmeralda
but she chose Abigail....
she did.

I'm back home from a week of writing

The six hour drive up was smooth and enjoyable
We had two adorable roommates
one a crazy painter, the other a sweet yogi woman

This is the main lodge where we ate our meals

They built a labyrinth!
but...we were too busy writing..to walk it

The fall color up here in Door County Wisc
was awesome......but we were too busy too see much of it
darn writing instructor :)

This is the path to the schoolhouse
where the class is held
and where we went to at night to write
so as not to bother our roommates

This is the schoolhouse...with the bay in sight

a cairn
one of many along the paths

curious rock

the bay
Lake Michigan was rocking and rolling that day

In my younger days, I climbed down to the beach and gathered rocks
not this year

ahhhh  magnificent sunsets
but I only saw one
with one bonfire to follow it
too busy writing away

I wrote a ghost story about a phone booth
that appears on a deserted road
...and shazam.....on the way home
omg....there was one

So I would say my week up in Wisconsin... writing
was a success
we worked on flash and mirco fiction
and we studied a teleplay script

But truly....there's no place like home
....and thanks for missing me Farmlady
I luv ya for it
