They knew.
They always know...
when you're exhausted
...mentally
 ...physically
...emotionally.

This year they caught me wallowing in
...what used to be
...what I rather see
...what wasn't.

Then you catch them peeking
into your darkest corners of
...grief
...regret
...sadness
...loneliness
...and doubt.

That's when they attack
...when you're down
...when you're weakened
when you have resigned.

That's when the local viruses
and bacteria get you,
Invade your vulnerable body...
and your down for the count.

I guess this is the only way I would have stopped
and slowed down
and taken care of myself...
I was forced to.

Pots of tea
and cough meds
Pain relievers
and buttered saltines
...like my Grandma used to make me.
A warm blanket on a comfy couch
...and last night
Project runway all stars

....and sleep came
and it was good

  3. Feel better Suz! You are absolutely right about germs moving in when we're worn down emotionally. The last time I had the flu was after we spent a cold January day clearing out my parent's house in RI - sure enough, within a day I was in bed for a week — and I really needed it.

  6. You got that right! Yesterday, as I was flying back to NY from Texas, I began to get that scratchy throat and THE SNEEZE that says "I'm a cold sneeze." So today I've been doing the Coldeeze thing. It really works! Take care!

  10. Take time to heal, now and whenever. Bodies give you hints; but your mind has to interpret them. Whatever needs done can wait, for sure.
Best wishes for the new year.

  12. Guess your body was telling you to curl up with your cats, tea, tv, blanket, and saltines and throw the have-tos out the window. I've felt very down right before getting sick too. Hope by now you are better and I wish you a happy and healthy 2013!

  13. I see you know the best way of dealing with THEM -- crawl into your comfort zone and stay there till you feel better...which I hope you do now.
