Miss Kitty O'Shea and I feel the same
We have both have been on a diet
during the longest winter ever

and we are crabby

It doesn't help that my daughter is overdue
Her baby was due March 1
and the last time I looked it is March 4th
Every day I try to console her....he'll come...he'll come when he's ready
poor thing...She can't sleep and has terrible heartburn
and she still gets up and goes to work
Heck, back in the day...hate that expression....but
back in the day....I stopped driving after my 5th month
and I babied myself......nothing has changed...If I want babying, I have to do it myself
no one takes pity on a 63 year old grandma
They just think I can do it......I always have
But hey, I am slowing down
exercise is getting harder
eating more restrictive,
I need Spring!
I know it will help my attitude to smell the wet glorious earth warming up
and to see a daffodil ...heck I want to see sunflowers!
oh and to hear the early morning song of the robin on my rooftop
oh, a woman can still have dreams
green...I want to see green
green grass, green leaves, green frogs
oh!
I feel better already
now if only I can get Picasa to post to blogger

relief from winter

It's only flurries
but really

STOP

and to top things off, I'm not feeling well today

too much popcorn at the movie theater yesterday

BUT
the movie was excellent

Labor Day

based on the book by Joyce Maynard
which I have ordered
...something to look forward to
I want to see if the director's vision
matched the author's

For a few hours I was transported to New Hampshire
a sweltering weekend in 1987

ahhh...the power of a good story
and a wonderful filmmaker

let it snow

Intervention please,somebody

There is cold and snow outside
There is stew in the oven
I just finished a brainless beach read
and the Godiva chocolates...
...truffles
are calling my name

If this winter doesn't end soon
I may have to sign up for the Biggest Loser TV show
and my husband too
Did I mention so far this past week
I have baked cookies and made a cake
It's serious folks

Light

Little Tuula
was a light bringer
lighting her mama's life with overwhelming joy

and Finn's

Yesterday was not only Superbowl Sunday
but Candlemas
A celebration of light
40 days after the birth of the Christ child
his mother went to the Temple
with her son
She went to the temple to offer a sacrifice
as required by mosaic law for her purification
while her son was seen by Simeon
who was told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die
until he had seen
 the Light of the world
promised
Yesterday a day to honor the Lord as the Light of the world

Candlemas is also halfway between Winter solstice and Spring Equinox
ancients celebrated the lengthening days
commemorating the annual beginning of the agricultural year
delivering them from darkness

Some people celebrate this day without electricity
...try that on Super bowl Sunday
But I did light candles
and thought about the light the Christ has brought into my life
the light that never extinguishes in me...no matter what
it is warm and comforting
a constant....for me....a light within
Not that darkness never tries to overwhelm me
but I fear it not for I have hope and light

I'm not certain about this winter...will it ever be over
today it is to drop to 8 below and tomorrow more snow
light a candle I say to myself
and gaze upon it and know
the season will change in due time

I have heard that one ethnic group
celebrates Jan 6th (Epiphany) with a circle cake
with wisemen figurines in the center
and inside the cake is buried a little Christ child figure
the one who gets the baby has to throw a party
on Candlemas day.....with tamales

Sounds like fun

They always find my house

I have seen this scraggly, dirty old cat a few times
...but not during this artic weather we've been going through
I did spot some cat footprints near our garbage can
and this morning I looked out and saw him
hiding under the mugo

He came onto the deck
but all there was was birdseed

He ran when he saw me
ran under the deck
So I went outside and dropped some dry food
by the opening going under the deck
He came out when I went inside
and ate

Who could resist that face
not me

ps. I meant to post this on my garden blog, but oh well
I guess I was meant to share this with you

We are expecting another blast of snow and cold
good grief this is the longest winter
I can hardly keep up with the bird seed

But I give thanks that I can help any of them
...the least of these

Sky mind
I look up
  become part of vastness
float
Then I see the plane
and my sky mind
disappears
returns to just
washing dishes

Today it begins
The Christmas whirlwind
2 weeks of family
all gathered together
and my daughter is due anytime now
to give birth to little Tuula
plans...?....who can make plans
with all this going on
Joy
that is what is going on here
pure joy
Oh Lord

Decorating and preparing
takes on a different flavor
when there are children involved
So I have my favorite Christmas hymns and carols
blasting away as I prepare the way

I'm actually loving all this chaos
I am listening to Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel
and my heart is just about bursting
from nostalgia and love
nostalgia for the family that is no longer here
and love
for God with Us

Now to bake cookies
...

Happy birthday Susie Sunshine...
like Mrs. Calabash,
-wherever you are
The knees weak
the ticker palpating
pills lined up on the kitchen counter.
I saw you this morning
through the fog of sleep
a sweet memory that had taste

My goodness, my first grandchild is 7 today
and so far away in california
I called her early this morning to wish her Happy Birthday
and the first thing she said was
Happy birthday tomorrow Grandma!
A good heart
What more could a grandma ask for.....
a beautiful child with a loving
good heart
......two other beautiful grandchildren
and two more on the way!! that's what
Little Tuula is due on Christmas
yes, you read that right....Tuula
My children could take the prize in unusual names!
I wanted to be a grandma so badly
put it on my 25 list of things I desired...
boy oh boy....I was heard
By March...we will have 5

Little Walter is due March 1st
The wheel of life is turning
dizzying at times
..oh that could be my new blood pressure meds too!
Life is good

I have a date with my mom today
....she's invited me to her senior group's luncheon
turkey and all the trimmings
great

and it will be great
She has reminded me that soon I will be 63
.....and that definitely qualifies me for the luncheon
with friends like her.....

Though I remember back to my younger days
when I was the youngest woman at our church's women's group
I was 26 and the others were into their 70's,80's and beyond
and they used to share stories about how when a new women would arrive
at their senior groups......the enemy
Most would grab hold of their husbands
and when a new man would join the group
the single ones would make fools out of themselves
over a new man

and the senior women would dedicate their lives to
squashing the competition of a new....
especially an attractive... younger new woman
whoa
I think I will be the youngest one today
and I'm not decrepit looking
This should be an interesting time to test the stories of those long- gone church senior women
Maybe I'll skip the red lipstick
;)

Oh give thanks unto the Lord
for He is good
and His mercy endureth forever

A childhood prayer
that comforts

I hope soon to be back blogging

..but have enjoyed reading the posts of all my friends
I am thankful for all of you

especially those who love and care for animals
those gifts from God

...bless those who care for the sheep...especially orphaned lambs
the dogs..especially the hurt the neglected the abused
and for those who have taught me to love the goats
and those who have shared the antics of their adorable kittens
....your kindness toward them warms the earth
and my heart

and Brian thanks for having such a big heart for the kids
that struggle through life
you are a beacon in darkness
thank you for this

Happy Thanksgiving to all

crumbling threshold
the upright broom bids us in
the dirt floor upswept

I love this little poem

Broom

It starts
out so well
Its fresh
gold straws
cut square
Flared wide

But so often
ends otherwise,
With weary
wan bristles
all stubbled
to one side

...valerie worth, poet

I relate to the broom

It is time
sweet kitty

Honeybun....she named you
....what her father used to call her

So deep is my sadness
...so short a life
...so short a time for you knowing my mother's love and need of you

This loss ....
dipping into her bank account of loss
for you
and suffering them all
all over again

Just a kitty
but oh so much more

We will be with you until the end
you are loved and cherished
Know that soft, furry one
