Galena mother's day

I spent my weekend in Galena
my favorite place
It was just my husband and me
Life gets complicated when your children have children
and they have other family and one lives thousands of miles away
So we have learned to just go with the flow
getting in our celebrations with each of them
when we can
This year we celebrated early with our children and my mother
leaving us the weekend to escape to the country
Oh how I love the country
though we have a house in a resort area
it is surrounded by farms and woods
best of both worlds actually
Saturday morning the woods were filled
with bird calls...holy moly...like a concert
and at night it was so dark ...love that darkness of the rural area
Every farm had baby cows or horses
And the vistas of the land in Galena are a special part of Illinois
which is usually flatland
though I love flatland horizons
My husband and I always seem to be on a date
when we are there
He is always so content visiting with the locals
that have become friends...
and we love just going for a ride in the country
no destination..but exploring the area
may we forever be explorers
if only weekend ones
I had a wonderful Mother's day
Here's a few pictures of our home and surroundings
I always like it when people..bloggers...share a bit of their
gardens or homes with me so
I hope you enjoy a peak

Baltimore Oriole and Goldfinches

It must have been a Goldfinch convention
at one time we had over 50  of them on the deck!

This is a male and female Rose- breasted Grosbeak

It was a glorious day

light and shadows everywhere

  2. I loved your description of getting away - it took me away, too. To the bursting spring of the country and the quiet space and the dark dark of night. Beautiful.

  11. How lucky you are to be able to have two places. I guess one is in the country, one in the city? My dream has always been to have one at the ocean but the prices there are too prohibitive. So, we settle for an occasional camping trip in our trailer to enjoy the coast. I am enjoying being closer to a city now since we moved but we are still not "in" the city. Still lots of trees and birds around.

  14. OK, NOW I get it, now I can picture you there!
I also love the country, even just a short visit, and the darkness that allows you see a million stars:)
And you have such a good attitude about holidays, much easier when they were little.

  15. Thanks for what you wrote @ mother's day. Our four were far away and it was hard for me. Your words helped.

And I know what you mean @ leaving Galena...every time I make to turn onto 89 south to return to CT from VT, I let out a long, sad sigh.

Loved all your pictures of BIRDS!
