On my way out the door today I heard this awful screeching
then saw this fellow fly over to the basketball hoop across the street
Now, I am a bird lover..but this hawk!
He snatched a little sparrow...I could see it clutched in his talons as I got close
He looked at me with those beady eyes and screeched right in my face
Mind your own business!
Oh dear, the poor little bird was already dead
So I reached in my pocket and pulled out my camera
He spread his looks like death wings,
screeched again and banked into the gray sky above
and was gone in a second
The circle of life....sometimes I just hate it.

Me too, the whole circle of life thing:(
ReplyDeleteWe have also had a hawk keeping a close watch on our yard and the many friends we feed.
Every day we find a pile of loose feathers.
It certainly does seem unfair, even knowing All are God's creatures, each serving a purpose somehow. Poor sparrow.

I agree, the circle of life can be cruel, but necessary.
ReplyDeleteGood picture!
ReplyDeleteI love hawks --- just part of the balance.
And so the cycle continues
ReplyDeleteWell, the hawk has to eat too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words you left on my blog. They made my day. :-)
I know what you mean, Suz !
ReplyDeleteLovely wishes,
Sylvia
It is sad to see, but it is part of God's Plan. What I hate to see if poor wee animals killed on the roads. It breaks my heart.
ReplyDeletesuz, this reminded me of the time my honey & i were watching this beautiful hawk float high above...as we admired it, we saw it swoop earthward and grab one of our pet doves! it too hate the circle sometimes, but now as i see them eat mice and small snakes in the field...i'm enjoying it more. :)
ReplyDeleteYou all are right..it is a part of life and ....the other thing
ReplyDeleteNow what would happen if he went to the Double Arches and demanded his meal? What's a hawk to do? As he is designed to do. At least he doesn't call it "sport" but life and death, you know. I love a hawk and feel very blessed when I see one. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteWhen asked if intelligent life from another planet was likely to contact us, Stephen Hawking answered, "We had better hope not because they would most probably eat us!"
ReplyDeleteWow! What a moment; interacting with that hawk!
