late afternoon light

There is something about late afternoon light that is comforting
In the fading garden it takes center stage...it is the lead
If you sit and watch it move across the wilting plants
the falling leaves
the gasping flowers
it somehow adds a holiness to it all
as if you are seeing it all for the first time
and you are filled with wonder
and in this scene of quiet dying
you find comfort
knowing that light also brings forth life
in its proper time
again

  1. Ah, beautiful thoughts. There is a holiness to it all. I have some of those same pink succulents, what are they called? Mine have turned a deep red. I just cut a big bunch and brought them inside.

  4. I was just talking about the special light in Fall with my sister this morning. It often feels so magical.
I hope you get to take advantage of it this weekend.
    Happy Friday !
(PS - Canadian Thanksgiving is pretty much the same as American Thanksgiving except that it falls on a different date (The second Sunday in October) and does not involve Fottoball watching of any kind. ;) Just lots of family time, turkey dinners and giving thanks for the harvest and the good things in life. Nice tradition, eh ?)

  10. Suz--Very nice Magpie. It has such a melancholy feel to it, just like the season always does to me. I read through a few of your poems of late and notice a theme running through them: that of taking a leap; moving forward; living your life to the fullest. It seems you and I are at the same place in our lives at the moment. Contemplation.

Farmers like afternoon light, marking the end of the day's work, just enough to light the way home to rest, food and family to renew for next day's light and life.
