late afternoon light

There is something about late afternoon light that is comforting
In the fading garden it takes center is the lead
If you sit and watch it move across the wilting plants
the falling leaves
the gasping flowers
it somehow adds a holiness to it all
as if you are seeing it all for the first time
and you are filled with wonder
and in this scene of quiet dying
you find comfort
knowing that light also brings forth life
in its proper time

  1. Ah, beautiful thoughts. There is a holiness to it all. I have some of those same pink succulents, what are they called? Mine have turned a deep red. I just cut a big bunch and brought them inside.

  2. I'm loving your words lately. You are such an encouragement to me. Have a beautiful day!

  3. The proper time -- yes.

    Lovely picture too.

  4. I was just talking about the special light in Fall with my sister this morning. It often feels so magical.
I hope you get to take advantage of it this weekend.
    Happy Friday !
(PS - Canadian Thanksgiving is pretty much the same as American Thanksgiving except that it falls on a different date (The second Sunday in October) and does not involve Fottoball watching of any kind. ;) Just lots of family time, turkey dinners and giving thanks for the harvest and the good things in life. Nice tradition, eh ?)

  5. Great photograph and wonderful words. Savouring each delicious moment as it happens, never to be seen in exactly the same way again.

  6. Willow...Autumn Joy Sedum
how funny that's exactly what they are
    Transparentnow...why thank you
I'm in one of my inward moods lately...sadness does that to a person

  7. I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.

    God Bless You ~Ron

  8. Beautifully said...your garden in this light look so inviting, a place to be safe and collect thoughts ...thank you for sharing this special space.

  9. Beautiful this late afternoon light, Suz !
I also have Autumn Joy in my garden.
    Nice weekend,

  10. Suz--Very nice Magpie. It has such a melancholy feel to it, just like the season always does to me. I read through a few of your poems of late and notice a theme running through them: that of taking a leap; moving forward; living your life to the fullest. It seems you and I are at the same place in our lives at the moment. Contemplation.

  11. my favorite time of day is late afternoon, most especially in the autumn. there's a depth and fullness to the light at this time of day that i love.

and thanks for your recent, kind comments over at my place. i appreciate them.

  12. Teri it seems we are...and I've lost weight recently too! deserve every good word coming your way
Sylvia..lovely plants aren't they is place of peace ..thank you

  13. That is just beautiful glad that you see beauty and wonder the way you do. x

  14. 'you find comfort
knowing that light also brings forth life
    in its proper time'
Farmers like afternoon light, marking the end of the day's work, just enough to light the way home to rest, food and family to renew for next day's light and life.

  15. Such beautiful connections alive in this post, I gave you one of my weekly awards which you can collect at my place if you like!

    Happy Blogging!

  16. You, my friend, are a poet with light as well as with words.
