  4. Oh my gosh, awesome picture! Those long-earred owls are SO gorgeous. You are so lucky to have had them in your tree. Every winter my sister and I go on a long drive in the country to a special place where long-earried owls roost and you can see them fairly closely during the day. I'm really looking forward to going this year.

By the way, those woodpeckers in my blog post are acorn woodpeckers. I have never seen a pileated woodpecker but would LOVE to-- I look for them in places where they have been spotted. I've never heard the sound of a barred owl but I'm a little envious ... I have such a thing for owls. I have heard the Western Screech Owl in the woods at night and that might sound similar to the barred owl.

  5. Oh to show my picture to someone who loves owls Too!
I have never seen a acorn woodpecker..never knew about them..but I can see they live up to their name!
I have seen a pileated...at our weekend home in Galena Il...We were having coffee and oh my gosh my husband froze and pointed....there it was pecking away at the dying cherry tree. They leave a rectangular hole..we did get a very blurry picture...I'll see if I can find it...Joy!
